Aug. 21, 2008 Jerry Lewis annual Muscular Dystrophy Assocation telethon is 10 days away, but a number of country stars are already helping the comedian raise money for the cause by contributing items for an online auction on the mda.org website.
As of yesterday, Reba McEntire had generated a $700 bid for a suede skirt, Charlie Daniels had accrued $250 for a signed gold fiddle, and a Dierks Bentley acoustic guitar had nabbed $200. In addition, an autographed Kenny Chesney guitar was up to $179, and a guitar signed by the Randy Rogers Band had brought in $100. Those items and plenty more remain up for bid through Sept. 4, well after the 21-hour telethon has come to a close.
Jimmy Wayne is the first country artist whos confirmed an appearance on the telethon, with plans to sing his current hit "Do You Believe Me Now" in Las Vegas. Billy Gilman will again serve as a co-host as Jerry hopes to beat last years record pledge total of $63.8 million.
Among the many country artists whove contributed their time and talents to the MDA telethon in the past are Joe Nichols, George Jones, Keith Anderson, Steve Holy, Julie Roberts, Phil Vassar, Dwight Yoakam, Sara Evans and the Oak Ridge Boys.
