Jan. 23, 2009 — Keith Anderson is set to undergo what he’s terming "minor vocal cord surgery" this month and, as a result, he’s cancelled his concerts through the end of February while he recovers.
"I’m grateful to be able to take this time off during the dead of winter, a typically slower time on the touring schedule," Keith says. "I certainly look forward to hitting it full throttle in March."
According to his website, five shows bit the dust: Hampton, Va., this Saturday; Yuma, Ariz., Feb. 7; Decatur, Ala., Feb. 18; Grand Rapids, Mich., Feb. 20; and Chicago, Feb. 21. Keith had been named as one of Dolly Parton’s guests at a Feb. 2 benefit show in Nashville, but that’s presumably off the schedule, too.
The specific nature of the ailment has not been revealed. Keith indicates it hasn’t caused pain, but did note that it had required him to cancel several dates last year. Dr. C. Gaelyn Garrett, of the Vanderbilt Medical Center, suggested surgery and a cessation of singing for the next five weeks.
Vanderbilt has one of the nation’s most highly regarded voice clinics. Among the country stars who’ve used the facility are Josh Turner, Willie Nelson, Chris Cagle, Sara Evans, Patty Loveless and John Michael Montgomery.
