By popular demand, television network Great American Country (GAC) will once again honor U.S. troops this Memorial Day weekend with Great American Dedications, a weekend-long marathon of country music videos dedicated to members of the military by family and friends and from the troops to their loved ones. Country music artists Tracy Byrd, Clint Black, Neal McCoy and Jamie ONeal will honor the U.S. troops by hosting the program. "We at GAC are proud to offer soldiers and families the opportunity to connect to one another in such a meaningful waythrough the music they love," said Sarah Trahern, senior vice president of programming. "And were not alone in wanting to show our appreciation to our men and women in uniform. Great American Dedications is one of our most-popular annual programs with viewers and the artists who request to host the program."
GAC host Nan Kelley headed out to San Diego to gather dedications from the troops at several U.S. Navy bases in the area. Watch exclusive footage of Kelley on the bow of the Los Angeles class-attack submarine USS Helena at the Naval Base Point Loma, on the flight line of the HSM-41 "Seahawks" Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron and dock side of the USS Ronald Reagan, an aircraft carrier described as "the most powerful warship in the world," at the Naval Air Station North Island.
Kelley and McCoy continue their hosting duties with a visit to Camp Pendleton where they tour the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit compound and training facility and the gun park filled with functional Howitzer cannons. During their tour, the pair experiences a touching encounter with Corporal Kyle Layer, a Marine wounded in Iraq, who used a cane to walk out of the Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital to request Tracy Byrds "I'm From the Country."
"I was honored to co-host the Great American Dedications show," says McCoy. "Nan and I had a great time at Camp Pendleton hanging out with all the terrific young men and women who serve this country so well. Any day spent with such a fine group of folks is an awesome day in my book."
In addition to the footage filmed with Kelley and McCoy on location, Great American Dedications features the dedications of U.S. service members deployed in Iraq filmed overseas earlier this spring. Selected dedications, video requests and photos submitted online at www.GACTV.com by GAC viewers will broadcast during the three-day special.
Great American Dedications airs throughout the day on Sat., May 26 and Sun., May 27 and all day on Mon., May 28 beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
