Each week country music expert Neil Haislop answers your questions!
Q: I am a huge Keith Urban fan and was wondering if you knew when he would be coming out with a new CD. Also, is there going to be a new DVD with him in concert, on the road or in the studio, etc.?
(Elaine, Attleboro, MA)
A: Elaine, right now Keith Urbans Greatest Hits: 19 Kids CD is doing its job for Keith in the album sales department. There is no date set for his next studio album. Also, his last listed tour date is September 13 at Lucas Field in Indianapolis with the Kenny Chesney show. Be sure to check his site, keithurban.net, for news on his new album and any new tour dates in 2008.
Q: When is Mark Wills' new CD coming out? Why doesn't he get any airtime with his music?
(Anna, Palmyra, NJ)
A: Anna, according to Mark Wills website, markwills.com, his new album, Familiar Stranger, is still listed as a 2008 release with no official release date set.
Q: I was looking at the Lost Trailers website today and saw something strange about their new CD that you could possibly shed some light on. Many of the songs on the new CD, Holler Back, are the same songs that were on their first record, The Lost Trailers. Why did they use old tracks to complete the album instead of recording new music?
(Todd, Woodbridge, VA)
A: Todd, there are only two songs that appear on the two albums. But, its not unusual for an act that didnt bust their career wide open with the first releases from the debut album to include a track or two from the first CD. The two that made it to the second album were likely songs that had tested well enough to be retained, or fit in well with the new songs they wrote or found for the new album, or were such favorites with fans on the road that they kept them on.
Q: Did John Rich write "Holy Water?" And, will you let him know I love that song? I don't know how to contact him but that song hit home hard for me. I was in a very abusive relationship and every day I live with pain and am limited to what I can do now. Thank you.
(Carla, Belmont, NC)
A: Carla, first Ill send your comments on to Big & Rich. Im sure theyll be glad to know it impacted your life in a positive way. "Holy Water" was co-written by Big and Rich, along with Vicki McGehee and Jeff Cohen.
Q: Whatever happened to Billy Gilman? I know he is still recording, but why is he not on a major record label like RCA or Capitol records?
(Alyssa, Lake Stevens, WA)
A: Alyssa, Billy Gilman was just 12 when he appeared on the country music scene in 2000. Although he didnt score any big hits, he made a big impression on a lot of people with his talent and personality. So far, Billy, now 20 years old, hasnt landed a new major recording label career in Nashville or elsewhere. But, hes still very much in the music business and does record and perform (most recently on this years Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon). He has recorded music as hes grown up, so check out all things Billy at billygilman.com.
Q: I was just wondering if Steve Wariner is still into music, as I haven't heard anything by him in a very long time.
(Rita, Kingston, Ontario, CAN)
A: Rita, Steve Wariner is still writing and recording music. His most recent album, This Real Life was released in 2005 on SelecTone Records. We dont know when Steves next solo project will come out, but thanks to Brad Paisley, youll get to hear some music from Steve Wariner on election day, November 4. Brad is releasing a CD called Play, a mostly instrumental album that includes some of the best pickers on earth Brad, of course, B.B. King, Keith Urban, Steve Wariner, and the late Buck Owens.
